Advise for when you have had an accident

Road traffic accidents happen all the time and if you are unfortunate to be in one, it is important that you are aware of all the options available to you.

Fault Accidents
If you have an accident that is your fault or you don’t have and cannot obtain the liable persons details, then unless you want to pay for the repairs yourself the only option you have is to go through your insurance company.

Non Fault Accidents
If you have an accident and it is someone else’s fault and you have their details (at least their registration number) you have a number of options you can choose. You can go through your insurance company, paying your excess, and they should be able to claim back the cost of the repairs so it should not affect your insurance. You should also be able to claim back your excess.

If you don’t want to go through your insurance policy you might be able to go directly through the third parties insurance company which means it would not affect your policy and you would have nothing to pay.

Finally you can a go through a credit hire/credit repair company. They will deal with your repairs and your hire at no cost to you and then claim them of the third parties insurance company. These companies are very useful if you don’t want to pay your excess and you don’t want to involve your own insurance company. They are popular with people with a large excess and people who only have third party, fire and theft cover. If you have had an accident recently that was not your fault, you can fill in the below form and it will be forwarded to a credit hire/repair company who will offer you free hire and free repairs.
