The definition of a motor trader is a person or persons actively operating a formal business on a full or part-time basis for profit, either selling vehicles or providing a service relating to repair or maintenance of motor vehicles. In the case of a car trader it would be their stock of vehicles held for sale and for repairers and similar occupations, the cover would be required to drive their customers cars. To ensure that you qualify for this Motor Trade Insurance, your business must be connected with the Motor Trade. In the unfortunate event of a claim on the policy you may be asked to provide trading records in relation to your Motor Trade business
No, but the policy covers you for use in connection with the Motor Trade use only. If you have another occupation outside of Motor Trade you can request additional cover for that work (normally at an increased cost) i.e. a builder may wish to cover his vans in connection with his building work.
This provides cover for a prospective purchaser to test drive your vehicles under your policy. The policyholder must accompany the driver at all times. An additional premium may apply. (Certain restrictions apply to this cover that will be explained at the quotation stage)
All vehicles covered on the policy MUST be registered to the proposer, OR held temporarily in your custody for motor trade purposes. Any vehicles not meeting these conditions are not covered by the terms of the policy.
Most types of vehicle can be covered but the more unusual, expensive, high performance vehicles or motorcycles may be subject to restricted cover or excluded entirely.
Some policies cover only "named drivers", others will cover virtually anybody who you give permission to including your employees, relatives and friends. Remember though the greater the degree of flexibility you require over drivers then the more your premium is likely increase. oUK legislation. These include household names
